Chace Crawford is a relatively new presence on the scene because it’s not long that “Gossip Girl” elevated him to the status of international male icon – and also this year’s hottest bachelor, according to People magazine. At 24 and still a lot to prove of himself in front of the cameras, there are moments when he feels he can’t take more of the pressure and constant attention, Chace admits in a new interview with Interview magazine.

The interview also comes with a stunning photospread in which Crawford channels Viggo Mortensen’s character Nikolai in the 2007 film “Eastern Promises.” However, it’s the piece in itself that draws the most attention, as it shows that, despite his relatively young age and against all estimates, this is not just a spoiled brat looking to cash in on his instant fame, as some nay-sayers depicted him in the past. Quite on the contrary, Chace is the exact opposite of that.

Just like a few other male stars of the young generation (Robert Pattinson being the first that comes to mind), Crawford does not like the attention and he certainly loathes having to speak of himself. “I’m the biggest believer in not talking. I don’t Twitter or MySpace or Facebook. I want to keep to myself. I don’t want to be out there. You have to keep some kind of control over who you are.” the actor reveals. Having to shoot “Gossip Girl” mostly in the streets is double the pain on this account, because there is always some fan or autograph hunter who believes they have some sort of right over his person, Chace adds.

Still, he tries his best to shut all the madness out and concentrate instead on the work he has to do. Chace admits that he never saw stardom coming, and he is certainly grateful it happened this way, which is all the more reason to work as hard as he can to prove he is more than his character on “Gossip Girl,” even if there are many people who only see him as such right now. The secret to a successful and, most importantly, lasting film career is diversity, the 24-year-old actor believes.

“There are always those ‘Gossip Girl’ walk-and-talk scenes where you’re walking and just talking about life and death. You’re having a serious conversation, looking someone in the eye, but everywhere around you, it’s literally a circus. Sometimes I sit back and laugh. But it definitely drains your focus and energy. I came out so mentally exhausted. […] You have to be realistic with yourself as to what your range is going to be. I look at the veterans of the game and what choices they made. You need to know what your threshold is and what you can take on and what gets to a point where the audience doesn’t believe it.” Chace also shares in the interview.
