In late November, I brought you news about the Surtab tablet, a product fully manufactured in Haiti.
But if you thought this was the only atypical location to grace the world with tablets, I have another one for you. Apparently Malta-based device maker, Cetrix is also trying to make a name for itself in this flourishing business.
The company has pushed out a 7-inch tablet (CD661) which bundles a MediaTek 1.2GHz dual-core processor combined with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory. The product runs Android 4.2 and is also equipped with a 2MP rear camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC (via NFCworld).
We have seen tablets with worse specs out there, so these models might be worthy of a second glance. Interested retailers will have to place an order of minimum 100 items ($99 / €73 a pop).
The second tablet (CT973G) has a 9.7-inch screen and draws power from a 1.6GHz CPU coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. Apart from that, specifications remain the same as with the previous model.
A minimum order of 500 units is required with a price per unit of $185 / €136.
