A little insight into what makes celebrities "green"

These days, green is the new black, as hybrid cars, recyclable bags and organic fabrics are taking over our daily lives and the fashion world step by step. Going eco-friendly has become more than just a fancy trend, it's the latest way to signal to the world that you're handsome, rich and care about global warming. As always, celebrities lead the fight to get rid of the costly and polluting aspects of life in the city and have a few "green living" tips to hand out. From investing in a completely "green" house to powering their studios with wind turbines and going vegan, celebrities have done it all and we can pick up a few useful tips and tricks from them.

The first name that comes to mind is Leonardo DiCaprio. The famous actor has given up driving completely and can often be seen riding around downtown New York on a bicycle, in the company of his famous supermodel girlfriend. He also recently purchased a top-of-the-range green condo in New York City, complete with low-emission paints and finishes, a fresh filtered air system, an in-house water treatment facility and even rotating solar panels. His new condo overlooks the Hudson River and also has a bike storage area, which makes it just about ideal.

Even though the vast majority of mere mortals cannot afford a luxurious apartment in one of the world's most expensive cities, you don't have to be a millionaire movie star to take up biking and fit solar panels in your house. We have to keep reminding ourselves that in the end, "green"-ness, like the celebrity status, is all a matter of perspective.

When it comes to earth-friendly high fashion, we can also pick a few tips from British designer Stella McCartney, who is not only an outspoken vegetarian, but a fully-fledged eco-conscious activist who has tried to instill a little green-ness into her studio and website, both of which are powered by wind turbines. Online shoppers are even given the option of shipping their organic clothing, shoes, and bags making use of carbon neutrality, which is bound to raise public awareness on the dangers of frequent jet-setting.

And the list could go on and on. The point here is that even filthy-rich, pampered celebrities are acknowledging that we have to do more for our planet, which means that there's nothings stopping us from doing the same in our own homes, even if it's just sticking to the recycling program or using a manure pile instead of chemical fertilizers, like Gwyneth Paltrow does. Sometimes, all it takes is small, easy steps, and change could soon be under way.
