She might have been criticized for many things ever since she has broken into the spotlight, but no one knows how to make a bold fashion statement better than Fergie. Taking a plain dress and still coming off as a genuine trendsetter was truly a piece of cake for the singer for the 34th Annual March of Dimes Beauty Ball, held in New York City a couple of days ago, several fashion-oriented magazines are pointing out.

By pairing the plain dress with neon-colored sandals (and a new, darker ‘do), Fergie has possibly managed to set a new trend in footwear. Several fashion publications are already saying that, for spring 2009, women can make the most of all the insane colors coming their way – literally. One such option would be choosing to leave them out of the outfit entirely, and going only for a dash of color with the shoes.

As we all know, not all women can pull a bright violet or intense yellow outfit. If considerations such as complexion and body weight prevent us from being trendy this season, stylists say, then we might as well accessorize accordingly, having our shoes, bags and bracelets bear the hues of the season. So, while we keep the outfit in regular shades (like white in Fergie’s case), we pick up a pair of shoes or a new bag in one of the colors of the season, such as bright orange, yellow, green or electric blue.

Not only will this make us as trendy as possible, fashion insiders guarantee, but it will also help us draw attention to our strongest suits. For instance, Fergie, who has always had one of the greatest pairs of legs in the industry, is using the orange cut-out shoes to place plenty of emphasis on them. A bright-colored bag would, of course, draw the eyes on the figure (and the hips in particular), which is why stylists are recommending due caution when choosing one.

The good news is that radical shoes like Fergie’s do not require a complete wardrobe overhaul, fashion experts are stressing. Unlike a top or a jacket in similar hues, shoes and bag in neon colors can virtually go with anything we might have in our closet, granted it’s in neutral shades, preferably simple black and white.
