Cee Lo Green makes inappropriate comments on rape, gets reality show canceled

Cee Lo Green doesn’t know how rape works, which became very obvious the other day, when he took to his Twitter to say how it wasn’t rape if the person being raped wasn’t conscious, for the simple reason that they had no memory of the act. The offensive tweets have been deleted, and Green is now offering a (non-)apology to anyone who was offended.

For some context, we should note that the singer was accused twice of inappropriate behavior: once of sexual assault and once of drugging a woman with the purpose of having his way with her.

The comments about how it wasn’t rape if the other person was passed out probably reflected how he must really feel on the topic, assuming the allegation that he drugged a woman on purpose is true. This is probably something that he tells himself all the time.

Within minutes after his tweets went online, he was under heavy fire from all sides and things got so bad so quickly that he was forced to shut down his account. It is now back up online but includes no trace of the offensive tweets.

Instead, it includes an “apology” that shows just how clueless he remains as to what he did wrong the first time. “I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter. Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe,” the star writes (emphasis ours).

Saying that something is “attributed” to you on social media implies that you didn’t say that thing, but that someone said it in your place and then made you into a scapegoat. Unless someone else was tweeting under Cee Lo’s Twitter handle, there is no way those comments were “attributed” to him because he was the one saying them.

His previous apology was just as unapologetic as this one, because it claimed that the offensive tweets had been “taken out of context.” “I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I’d never condone the harm of any women. Thank you.”

He’d probably never condone any harm on a woman, but he made it clear that he didn't consider it “harm” if she was passed out unconscious, either because she got drunk or because someone drugged her. So he’s not exactly lying here.

Because Cee Lo’s original tweets are no longer available online, here’s what they said, so you can make up your own mind about them: “If someone is passed out, they're not even WITH you consciously! So WITH implies consent… when someone brakes on a home there is broken glass where is your plausible proof anyone was raped… women who have really been raped REMEMBER!!! So if I TRIED but did NOT succeed but the person said I DID then what really happened?”
