14 DAY TRIAL // Earlier this month, a terribly hungry cat threw caution out the window, broke into a fish store and got busy feasting on squid, flounder and all sorts of other tasty seafood treats.
Apparently, the feline was so determined to enjoy life to the fullest that it did not care who was watching. Besides, it most certainly did not give a damn about how much its stunt would cost the store's owner.
This rather amusing incident was caught on camera by one of the store's customers, and the video is available below. Fair warning, the excitement on the cat's face might just make you crave some fish sticks yourself.
How the cat ended up inside the fish store
By the looks of it, the incident occurred at the Vladivostok International Airport in eastern Russia. It is understood that, before going the extra mile and breaking in, the feline spent several days circling the fish store.
Thus, airport employees claim to have several times seen it wondering around, looking like it could sure use something to eat. Since nobody bothered to feed it, the cat took matters into its own paws and paid the fish store a visit on its own accord.
According to DM, it was on December 5 that the cat worked up the courage to enter the store. Rather than beg for something to eat and hope that somebody would take pity on it, it climbed inside the display case and helped itself to whatever was available.
The store's owner says that, all in all, the cat ate and walked all over about $1,000 (€800) worth of seafood. Mind you, the feline even opened several packages of vacuum-sealed packages, just to see what was inside them.
“The cat made its way inside the counter, and ate and nibbled the goods, scratched and wrecked the packaging around the squid and dried fish,” one of the shop assistants working at this store told the press in an interview.
All's well that ends well
Following this incident, the cat became quite popular in Russia, and plenty of people offered to adopt it. However, the feline was eventually gifted to an ice hockey club dubbed Admiral Vladivostok. It is now the club's official mascot.
The cat now goes by the name of Matroskin, said to be a feline character featured in a Soviet cartoon titled “Three from Prostokvashino,” and no longer has to worry about securing its next meal by breaking into one store or another.
