The news might be more to the liking of those way past their childhood years, who grew up watching the original cartoons featuring the friendly adversaries Tom & Jerry, as well as the rascally rabbit Bugs Bunny. Variety claims that Cartoon Network together with its parent company Turner are planning a whole new set of mini-series, which is going to bring back to life the classic animated characters, all in an ambitious effort to boost their programming slate.

The aged characters will be getting a modern remake and brand new adventures. So far, those being eyed for mini-series are Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny and Scooby Doo, basically the most popular shows going back to the 1930s, which have stood the test of time and offered countless hours of enjoyment to numerous generations.

According to a statement released by the company, the brand new “Tom & Jerry Show” will preserve the look and sensibility of the original characters but will get a “a brightly colored, high-definition lens on the madcap slapstick and never-ending battle that has made Tom and Jerry two of the most beloved characters of all time.” The premiere date has been set for April 9 at 5:30 pm.

Similarly, the “Wabbit – A Looney tunes Production” show starring that mischievous rabbit Bugs Bunny, will feature the character in comedic shorts in which it's paired off against classic “victims” such as Yosemite Sam and Wile E. Coyote, but also introduce whole new foes.

The new Scooby Doo show will be called “Be Cool, Scooby Doo” and is billed as a 22-minute animated series that shows the Great Dane and the rest of the gang in a few more adventures during their last summer holiday before the high-school graduation.

Cartoon Network has also announced its intention to tap into a wider market, as it is going to offer its program for viewers using non-traditional viewing devices such as smartphones and tablets. Later in the year, the network is expected to roll out content that has been designed specifically for mobile devices, accompanied by targeted ads for this market.

In all, there are more shows planned to be added to the programming schedule, apart from the classic characters, aimed at the more modern viewers. Titles such as “Clarence”, “We Bare Bears”, “LEGO NINJAGO: Masters of Spinjitzu”, “Sonic Boom”, “Total Drama: Pahkites Island”, “Numb Chucks” and “Beyrairderz” will be taking up air time along with the announced originals.
