14 DAY TRIAL // Singer Carrie Underwood and Ottawa Senator hockey player Mike Fisher are engaged to be married, her spokesperson confirms for Us Magazine. The two have been dating since last year and have kept most of their relationship out of the media, being both very private persons. A wedding date has not yet been set, but both are obviously over the moon because of the engagement.
“I’m happy to confirm that Carrie Underwood is engaged to Mike Fisher, and the couple couldn’t be happier. No wedding date has been set at this time,” the rep tells Us Magazine. As per the same source, Mike too confirmed the happy news during a recent press conference, while also telling friends that he had proposed to Carrie on Sunday and she had said “yes.” There are no wedding plans at this point.
As also noted above, early in their relationship, the two stars kept their romance as low-key as possible, perhaps because Carrie had already had some nasty experience in this sense. Her relationship with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who moved on from her to Jessica Simpson, is one illustrative example in this case, often giving way to bitter exchanges of words in the media. It’s only recently that she and Mike began to be more open about their romance, Us says.
“According to the Ottawa Sun, he also confirmed the news at a press conference Monday. He said he popped the question Sunday, but declined to offer any other details. ‘It’s true,’ he said. ‘We’re both obviously excited and very happy.’ His teammate Chris Neil said Fisher, 29, called him shortly after he proposed. ‘I think it’s great,’ Neil told reporters. ‘It’s a long time coming. There’s going to be a lot of broken hearts in Ottawa with all those girls who are in love with Mikey’,” Us writes.
One problem that the couple will have to face when married – and with which, to a certain extent, they’ve already been faced – is the amount of time work takes up with each, as Mike was also saying in past interviews.
