Until just recently, it was hard to love Andy Dick because of his very public and very embarrassing drunken rants. He’s been sober for a while now and, as a contestant on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, he’s found just the thing to make his kids forgive him, if only a bit.

Check out his Viennese Waltz on last night’s DWTS show.

Dick and his pro dancing partner Sharna danced to Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and, at one point during their routine, she stepped back while he danced alone – or with his daughter, if you will. She was in the audience.

It was an emotional moment that barely left a dry tear in the house. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba, for one, was crying so hard she could hardly speak when her turn came.

As Len Goodman put it, after this dance, Andy, who came a man on the show, would leave it as a hero. In his kids’ eyes, at least.
