Cameron Newton, the 25-year-old quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, had to be rushed to the hospital just minutes ago after being involved in a serious 2-vehicle crash in Charlotte, North Carolina, just outside the Bank of America Stadium where his team plays.

Reports from the scene of the crash spreading on social media hint that Newton wasn’t at fault for the accident. As to the injuries he sustained, they seem to be serious but not life-threatening.

Newton’s truck flipped over on bridge after being hit by sedan

Reports on the incident are spreading like wildfire on social media, painting a fairly accurate picture of the crash, which took place on a bridge in Charlotte, North Carolina, right outside the stadium where Newton’s team, the Carolina Panthers, plays.

As per TMZ, Newton’s truck was hit from the side by a sedan coming in with great speed, and the impact sent the truck flipping over no less than 4 times. Eyewitnesses reveal that Newton was able to crawl out of the overturned car, make his way to the pavement, and lie there until help came to him.

The same eyewitnesses claim that Newton didn’t run a light and wasn’t speeding, which probably means that it was the other driver’s carelessness that caused the accident.

Speaking of the other driver, he too has been rushed to the hospital and is believed to be in fair condition.

Newton didn’t want to be taken to the hospital

Sources on the scene reveal for the aforementioned media outlet that Newton initially pleaded with the paramedics not to take him to the hospital. He may have even tried to downplay his injuries by trying to walk, but when he found that he was in too much pain to do so, he allowed himself to be strapped on a gurney and be taken to the hospital.

Photos making the rounds on social media show him lying on the pavement, grimacing in pain, while holding his leg. In the gallery below, you will find photos of his truck after the crash.

Word online has it that doctors at the hospital found 2 fractures in his lower back, but his actual condition is unknown as of the time of writing. His injuries are said to have been serious but not life-threatening, but so far, no word on his recovery.

Fans and friends have already taken to social media to wish Newton a speedy recovery. The police are investigating the causes of the crash, and the Carolina Panthers have promised to keep fans up to speed with Newton’s progress.
