Developer Stainless Games has announced that its upcoming revival of the famous racing series Carmageddon: Reincarnation will be released through Steam Early Access in March.

The developers have also released a new tech demo video to go with the announcement, showing their physics engine in action in some sequences of vehicle destruction meant to showcase the upcoming game’s damage technology.

The video displays the full-on onslaught the game is capable of delivering ever since the alpha state, and features a silly soundtrack similar to Benny Hill’s classic Yackety Sax.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation will be the fourth installment in the over-the-top vehicular combat and racing series created by the very same Stainless Games.

The game was originally inspired by the cult classic movie Death Race 2000, and it presented a novel spin on racing, allowing players to win races by rendering their competitors out of commission, not only by speeding down a circuit.

The game featured a lot of power-ups and bonuses and rewarded creative stunts and running over as many civilians in a row as drivers could manage, and as such the first Carmageddon was highly controversial due to its violent content.

The team managed to secure a place in the ‘90s hall of fame with their many innovations and the superb and rich gameplay experience the game offered, and many of their old-time fans are intrigued to see what the team can deliver on today’s much more powerful technology.

There’s already a racing game on Steam Early Access that features well-implemented high-quality vehicle deformation, in the form of Next Car Game, but even so it’s still a more racing simulation-oriented kind of game, as opposed to Carmageddon: Reincarnation, which promises a more over-the-top kind of action.

Over-the-top indeed, as there aren’t many games out there that allow you to smash stuff using the dildozer from Idiocracy, that the team revealed during an earlier video demoing the upcoming game’s suspension technology and that also pokes its nose into the new vid.

The studio reported that Carmageddon: Reincarnation is currently in a pre-alpha phase of development, and that they plan to release it on Steam Early Access on March 27.

Additionally, backers of their Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign will get to see the game two weeks prior to its release through Steam.

Stainless Games is developing Carmageddon: Reincarnation for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 gaming platforms, and a final release date has not been officially announced yet.
