Recently, Logitech unveiled the new webcam series Quick Cam Pro 9000 and the Quick Cam Pro for Notebooks. In the manufacturing process, the company used lenses designed in an exclusive collaboration with a heavy name in the optics industry, Carl Zeiss.

The partnership between Carl Zeiss's optical technology and the new line of QuickCam Pro was a successful one and although there will be an improvement in image quality, it is not going to be something substantial.

Nevertheless, Logitech's cooperation with Carl Zeiss represents a major step in the evolution of video communication. The company's webcams are the first to meet Zeiss' famous standards for lens design and manufacturing.

"We are excited to join forces with Logitech and to expand our reach into this interesting market. The new webcams announced today are just a preview of the advancements in image quality that we anticipate from this collaboration," Dr. Winfried Scherle, vice president and general manager of Carl Zeiss's Camera Lens Division, stated.

But Logitech did not stop its progressive development with Carl Zeiss, as the QuickCam Pro for Notebooks are said to use autofocus system for fast focusing, which eliminates the inconvenience of the manual focus. It is capable of fast refocusing, while the image remains crisp even in extreme close-ups.

Gina Clark, general manager and vice president of the Logitech's Internet Communications business unit announced the purpose of the partnership: "People will be amazed by the outstanding image quality of these webcameras. Logitech's goal with our webcams has always been to better connect people from around the world. With Carl Zeiss, the company that essentially invented the science of camera optics, we are closer to making video communications nearly indistinguishable from having a conversation in the same room."

Both Logitech webcams work with most of the popular video applications and record the videos at up to 30frames per second. They also support the 720p high-definition video format, being able to record to disc at a resolution of 960 by 720 pixels. Both feature a 2 megapixels sensor that can capture up to eight-megapixels photos.

Regarding the pricing and the availability, the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 and the Logitech Quick Cam Pro for Notebooks are expected to be available in the US and Europe starting with July, with a suggested retail price of $99.99.
