Typhoon Jelawat reached Japan on Sunday, causing the death of a 29-year-old fisherman in Okinawa and injuring dozens.

Blackouts occurred and traffic was paralyzed, upi.com reports. This video, posted by user RussiaToday, shows a car being blown up in Camp Kinserm, an American Marine base on the island of Okinawa.

The footage of the car being dragged in the plaza, thrown around by heavy wind and rain and eventually flipped over was captured by US Marine Joseph M. Nolan.

85mph winds were recorded in the city of Hachioji, near Tokyo. Landfalls occurred on Japan's main island of Honshu. 96,000 households in Okinawa had their power cut off, and inhabitants were evacuated.

More damaging winds and floods are expected, as Jelawat is set to curve northeastward, more towards the mainland.
