Devil May Cry also in the pipeline

Capcom is not content with making yet another Resident Evil movie, so the company is also thinking of spinning its most valuable intellectual properties in the comic book genre. At the recent Comic Con in San Diego, the final details of a deal involving Capcom and DC have been hammered out and the first products are expected as early as next year.

DC will handle the new properties through its Wildstorm imprint line and, at the moment, only Resident Evil and Devil May Cry have been announced as getting comic book tie-ins. Other titles from Capcom might follow if fans' reaction is good. The writing and creative teams for the comics have not been announced yet.

This is not the first time that Resident Evil is turned into a comic book. In 2002, a Resident Evil: Code Veronica series was in print, although it failed to make a significant impact. It seems that the new series will follow the story told in the Resident Evil 5 videogame, creating a more in-depth look at the background of the characters while also presenting an alternate storyline to that of the game.

Hank Kanalz, who is the vice president and general manager of Wildstorm, stated that "We're ecstatic that Resident Evil is returning to Wildstorm, where we have already established deep roots into the mythos of this world. We can't wait to continue, and bring a freshness and excitement to the property to match the amazing things they are doing with the game".

Resident Evil and Devil May Cry are well suited to the comic book format because of the larger than life characters they feature and of the way the action sequences flow. We'll have to wait and see if the partnership between DC and Capcom delivers something really great.
