Street Fighter IV was one of the biggest releases of early 2009 and the video game managed to lead to a revival of the fighting-game genre, with a new King of Fighters and BlazBlue following during the fall. The company is not known for resting on its laurels and fans of the series have been waiting for an announcement regarding the future for some time now.

A post on the official Capcom blog offered a glimpse into the plans of the publisher and developer. Writer Natsuki Shiozawa had already promised readers some news related to a sequel and she delivered, in a way. The new post basically says that a big revealing related to the Street Fighter series is in the works and that the company is getting ready for it. The venue will probably be the Tokyo Games Show, which beings on September 24 and where Capcom is set to make a presence.

What might fans of the series be in for? Seeing the success of Street Fighter IV, Capcom will probably not be in a hurry to create a true sequel and brand it with the numeral V. The upcoming announcement will probably contain one of the following words: Turbo, Super, Dashe, Alpha or Championship Edition.

This means that the new Street Fighter will be a game that mixes the roster of the IV release and probably introduces some new mechanics, without modifying in any way the core engine or introducing characters that are completely new to the series. The developers of the latest installment have already talked about having Dee Jay and T. Hawk models ready for the IV engine.

Both Street Fighter II and III have received this version treatment and most of the releases were well received by fans of the series. It will be interesting to see what twists on the well-known formula Capcom can introduce in the upcoming Street Fighter IV variations.
