Capcom has shared some details about its upcoming Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City tactical shooter, this time saying that it expects impressive sales based on the pre-orders that were collected up until now.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City marks a pretty big departure from the franchise's survival horror roots, this time delivering a more action-oriented experience where players need to work with squadmates and make their way through the city infested with zombies.

We've already seen the game in action thanks to lots of screenshots and videos, but now its publisher, Capcom, has shared details about its potential retail performance. According to the company, many pre-orders have been recorded, so Operation Raccoon City is looking set to sell lots of units later this month.

"Our pre-order figures have given us a huge amount of confidence that the title will perform well despite the current conditions at UK retail," Capcom's UK Product Manager Karl Reader told MCV.

"We know our Resident Evil audience very well; the real challenge is to captivate a wider audience with a new take on team-based action horror. We couldn't be in a stronger position to achieve just that."

According to Reader, gamers nowadays want brands they can trust, so the long running Resident Evil series has a distinct advantage over new intellectual properties. What's more, plenty of DLC is planned for Operation Raccoon City, so owners will certainly keep on playing it in the future.

"Consumers are buying brands they can trust. The Resident Evil brand is synonymous with high production values and quality gaming experiences. We have an extensive DLC plan to further that longevity."

What's more, Reader also confirmed that Capcom is already recording lots of pre-orders for Resident Evil 6, despite the fact that no bonuses have been announced as of yet.

Operation Raccoon City is out on March 20, in North America, and March 23, in Europe, for the PS3 and Xbox 360. PC owners get it on May 18 for their platform.
