Nippon camera, optics, and photographic equipment manufacturer Canon announced today that the company had surpassed the 70-million-unit mark for film and digital EOS-series interchangeable lens cameras production.

“Introduced in March 1987 as a new generation of AF SLR cameras, EOS cameras were the world's first to incorporate an electronic mount system enabling complete electronic control not only between the lens and body, but throughout the entire camera system,” said the manufacturer.

Among the bestselling EOS cameras that contributed to the achievement of this milestone we can mention the EOS 70D, featuring Canon's innovative Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, as well as the EOS Rebel SL1 / EOS 100D / EOS Kiss X7 entry-level APS-C format DSLR.

In addition to that, Canon also predicts that, this year, the company’s EF lens production will reach and surpass the 100-million-unit milestone. All we need to know next is what Canon cameras and lenses will be announced this year.
