Every week a new Canon patent emerges, unveiling some of the future plans of the renowned camera, optics, and photography gear manufacturer, but that is nothing out of the ordinary, as the Nippon giant has been ranked first among Japanese companies for the number of U.S. patents awarded last year.

Japanese website Egami has recently discovered a Canon patent that pictures a new macro ring flash with an improved design. According to the patent's schematics, the new ring flash designed features a prism that will allow the light to be evenly distributed on your subject.

The patent also reveals that this new design is more cost-effective and will allow Canon to offer a less expensive solution to the current macro ring flash units on the market.

Recently, the Japanese giant has filed other patents that include 4 new mirrorless lenses designed for the company's EF-M mount cameras, a new full-frame 11-24mm f/4 lens for DSLR cameras, and stabilized versions of the 85mm f/1.8, 100mm f/2, and 135mm f/2.8 lenses.
