Canon has recently announced that it has been ranked third among all companies in the U.S. and first among Japanese firms for the number of U.S. Patents awarded last year, with a number of 3,825 patents.

According to the latest rumors, the company is planning to expand its lens lineup by replacing its older lenses with image stabilized versions.

Japanese website Egami has discovered a new patent filed by Canon that presents three new stabilized lenses, including: 85mm f/1.8 IS, 100mm f/2 IS and 135mm f/2.8 IS. Recent rumors also point that Canon is working on a new 50mm f/1.8 IS USM lens that will come as a replacement for the old 50mm f/1.4 USM glass released 20 years ago.

Yesterday, new information emerged about the upcoming Canon EOS-A1 digital camera that appears to be the company's new flagship DSLR featuring a 36.8MP image sensor, DIGIC 6 image processor, and Dual Pixel CMOS AF, all packed in a tough magnesium alloy body similar with the EOS-1D X.
