By now I think that everybody has noticed that television has almost transitioned to HD, so Canon is releasing two new remote-control cameras for broadcast and professional users that will bring Full HD capabilities to locations where remote-control operation is essential to complete the high resolution circle.

Particularly well suited for applications such as sports stadiums, horse-racing tracks, broadcast television “skycams,” the BU-46H is the first of these cameras to detail, this outdoor model boasting some pretty impressive features such as a weatherproof housing, that comes with its own “windshield-wiper” to keep its lens port clear, or pan, tilt and zoom capabilities, to name just a few.

A special “Night Mode” is also included, this new feature slowing down the shutter speed allowing frame accumulation that elevates camera sensitivity.

Also found in the BU-51H indoor camera this mode is accompanied by a new 2X digital extender that doubles the image size of distant objects.

The BU-51H indoor remote-control camera is also packing a built-in microphone, both of these solutions featuring a non-proprietary control protocol that enables the cameras to be operated in a full automatic mode as well as a manual one, if the need ever arises.

“Television and video content creation of nearly every kind has transitioned to widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio HD,” observed Larry Thorpe, national marketing executive, Broadcast and Communications division, Canon.

“Specialized applications requiring versatile and cost-effective remote-controlled HD pan-tilt cameras are no exception.

These applications include POV (point-of-view) cameras for traffic and weather monitoring, houses of worship, legislative chambers, and many other uses.

Canon U.S.A. responded to these markets recently with its BU-45H and BU-50H outdoor and indoor remote-control HD pan-tilt camera systems.

Now Canon is following-up on those very successful products with the new BU-46H and BU-51H, which provide additional features for even greater functionality,” concluded the company rep.

Unfortunately, no infos regarding pricing or availability have come our way until now.
