Good news for the owners of the Canon EOS C300 cinema camera. The company has just announced it will be offering the Dual Pixel AF continuous autofocus feat on the device.

Some of you might remember Canon did the same with the EOS C100, but in order to take advantage of the upgrade, users are require to take or send their device to an accredited Canon service center.

On top of that, users performing the upgrade will be able to take advantage of a new AF lock setting that enables users to change the image framing while holding the desired focus.

Anyway, for those wondering how the Dual Pixel CMOS technology works, the EOS C300 arrives with a Dual Pixel AF tech that bundles a CMOS sensor with an array of pixels, each featuring two separate photodiodes.

The system functions by continuously comparing the outputs provided during AF modem, phase-difference autofocus is capable of providing non-blurred images and smooth focus transitions even in action scenarios.

After this upgrade, the EOS C300 camera’s continuous AF active area will take up 20% of image vertically and 25% horizontally, thus providing a larger autofocus zone.

Anyway, those interested in the upgrade should know it is not offered for free, but comes with a hefty $500 / €366 charge.
