Lots of rumors have been circulating around the idea of a Canon EOS 7D successor and, while many of them implied that the upcoming Canon APS-C flagship wouldn't bear the Mark II moniker, there's always room for second thoughts.

According to NorthlightImages, a new source stated that the Canon EOS 7D replacement would indeed be the Mark II version. Moreover, this new model is scheduled to be announced in the second quarter of 2014, with a launch date set to Q3 this year.

The same source also mentioned that various aspects of the upcoming EOS 7D Mark II were yet to be established and any specs that will leak over the next months were subject to change at any time.

In addition to that, the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia is the perfect occasion for many camera manufacturers to send new prototypes to be tested on the field. Canon is known to ship various camera kits to this event, and among them there might also be the new EOS 7D Mark II or the rumored EOS-A1.
