If you're the owner of a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, the following lines may be of interest to you. According to the company itself, the cameras seem to have a problem related to their respective LCD panels.

Those familiar with how the camera works might know that the 5D Mark III’s LCD can be lit up in dark environments in order for you to check the camera’s settings.

But as Canon writes in its Product Advisory, this state can affect the displayed exposure value. In translation, this means the display could be showing an incorrect exposure value which could prompt photographers to unnecessary adjust the settings or wrongly do so.

However, it appears the issue won’t become very evident in the captured image. Even so, the company wants to do the right thing, so it has already identified the batches affected by the problems – they come with serial numbers “0nnnn1nnnnnn” or “0nnnn2nnnnnn.”

For the time being, the issue doesn’t appear to be problematic enough for Canon to offer replacements or recall the affected devices.

Despite claiming that the overall shots won’t be affected, Canon encourages owners of EOS 5D Mark III to submit their gear for inspection free of charge. In order to be eligible for the service, you should be registering here.
