14 DAY TRIAL // More than a month ago, Nippon optics manufacturer and one of the key players on the digital camera market, Canon, has released a new firmware update for 4 of its EOS Cinema cameras that brought important shooting enhancements and improved operability.
After a bug was discovered with the new C300 and C300 PL firmware, Canon decided to suspend it for a few days and released a new fixed firmware version.
Today, December 19, Canon announced the availability of a new firmware update for its C500 and C500PL Cinema cameras that brings a few important additions as well as peripheral lens correction for some of Canon's Cinema and EF lenses.
With this new build, the aforementioned Cinema cameras are now capable of using Canon's proprietary Cinema Gamut as well as DCI-P3+, providing an expanded color gamut option that covers the majority of the eye's visible color spectrum for RAW image capture.
In addition to that, v1.0.4.1 extends the camera's ISO or ASA Range to 80,000, making the sensor more sensitive to light and able to capture high-quality footage even in low-light conditions.
A new shooting mode is now available thanks to the addition of a 4096x1080-pixel RAW-format resolution, which can help you capture images up to 120 frames per second, giving you the freedom to create detailed slow-motion scenes.
The new firmware also comes with a new ACESproxy output that enables filmmakers to grade their footage using a compatible ACES monitor and ASC CDL system.
Moreover, the HD/SD SDI terminal output is now compatible with Canon Log LUT function and allows you to view a Rec. 709 version of your RAW footage simultaneously on an external monitor as well as on the camera's HD-SDI monitor output.
Other notable features of the v1.0.4.1 update are cooling fan control, the ability to shift the magnification location in the viewfinder, the control dial can now operate either ISO and iris modes, Record button lock, as well as peripheral lens correction for select Cinema and EF lenses.
