The NAB 2012 show is on as we speak, and Canon is participating, having a certain display, well, on display.

Like Eizo before it, the company has revealed a panel with a native resolution of 4,096 x 2,160 pixels, commonly dubbed 4K.

It is just a prototype though, and the exact specs, not to mention average pricing for this sort of thing, have yet to be finalized.

Still, the display is good for any video editing tasks and media playback, not to mention consistent and reliable image quality, to the point where film producers may consider utilizing it.

Canon hopes to have commercially ready 4K displays by the end of the year (2012).

If anything, it shows that there might be something to Intel's hope that higher-resolution displays will start to proliferate in 2013.
