Canon files new patents every week, and this time we stumbled upon a new one that reveals the company's plans to release a 24-85mm f/3.5-5.6 lens as well as a new EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM optic with Macro capabilities.

According to Japanese website Egami, the two lenses featured in this patent are designed for Canon full-frame digital SLRs. Canon's lineup included in the past a 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 lens which was discontinued in 2010.

For the moment, there's no information regarding whether these two lenses will ever reach mass production or not, but a cheaper zoom lens for full-frame DSLRs is more than welcomed among today's expensive FF optics.

With CP+ 2014 around the corner, the possible Canon compact cameras that will be presented at the show have already been leaked. In a couple of days you will see the new PowerShot G1 X Mark II, waterproof, freezeproof, and shockproof PowerShot D30, the SX700 HS compact superzoom digital camera, and a new IXUS 145 model.
