Heather Faria, aged 27, of Dighton, Bristol County, was sentenced on Thursday to two years in prison and eight years of probation because she has faked cancer for almost 3 years.

The former teacher was in 2003 under the suspicion that she is ill with stomach cancer and went to see a doctor, but, after, she found out that she is perfectly safe and sound, she didn't tell anyone the great news, instead she continued to accuse pains and pretend to be seriously affected by the disease.

She did all the faking because her friends hosted several fund and donation raisers and succeeded to collect $37 000 to be used by the suffering woman to pay for her highly expensive treatment. But Heather's plan all the way was to get the money and spend it for her own benefit and welfare, on holiday trips, jewelry etc.

She was caught lying by some skeptics who checked on the clinic where she pretended to be a patient, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Being proved the fact that she has concealed her perfect healthy condition, she was summoned and pleaded guilty to five counts of larceny and one count of gross fraud.

The convicted will be eligible for parole after one year and will have to give the money back, declared Faria's lawyer, Francis O'Boy.
