Well... apparently, you can!

Can you domesticate a server? Well... apparently, you can! At least, Microsoft has done it with Windows Home Server. And as the Redmond company is gearing up for the holiday season, a new marketing campaign was unleashed, designed to push Stay-at-Home Servers. Having Windows Home Server, as well as HP's MediaSmart Server into the focus, the Stay-at-Home Servers official website features a relaxed and humorous approach to Microsoft's home server operating system.

"When we set about building Windows Home Server we knew we were going to be defining a new category of products and solutions for consumers. (...) But at the end of the day we recognized that no matter what we called the product we would always be describing it as a home server, because that's what it is: A device on a home network that provides centralized services over the network to other devices - helping consumers protect, organize and share their digital content," explained Charlie Kindel, Microsoft Product Unit Manager, Windows Home Server.

Kindel indicated past situations when the idea of a home computer or a home network seemed disproportionate when it came down to consumers in the real world. With Windows Home Server, the Redmond company is at a similar turning point, one that will end up making home servers ubiquitous. For the time being, there is still room for improvement as far as the content of Stay-at-Home Servers goes, but Microsoft promised to crank up the campaign by the end of the year.

"This week we started an online advertising campaign for Windows Home Server that, in a humorous way, will help explain how Windows Home Server can help families. The campaign complements a range of other communications efforts including events, webinars, online and in-store demonstrations and more. This campaign will drive home (pun intended) the idea that just as Microsoft was the leader in making "home computer" and "home network" common household terms it is doing it again for "home server"," Kindel added.
