A simple matter of “birds of a feather flocking together”

A campaign has been started on Tilt to raise money for a private showing of the upcoming movie Blackhat at a theater in Santa Clara.

There is no hidden agenda behind the initiative, which is just a way to bring together individuals from the Tilt community that share the same interests.

Surplus money to be refunded

The minimum contribution is $20 / €17, which guarantees a seat at the viewing. The money is necessary for renting the cinema, which costs about $600 / €506.

The selected cinema is located at AMC Mercado 20, 3111 Mission College Boulevard, Santa Clara, CA 95054. “We are requesting for opening night, Friday January 16th.  However, date and time are subject to final reservation,” it is said in the description of the campaign.

The goal of the campaign is to raise $1,216 / €1,026, which would cover for both reservation of the theater and food and beverages served at the location.

If this amount is exceeded, that is, if there are more than 60 backers, the surplus will be refunded in order to reflect the difference in ticket cost. Basically, only half the sum, which is the “tilt,” is needed for the private showing to take place.

Backers are not charged on the spot

A “tilt” is the minimum cost for fulfilling the campaign. This ensures that individuals can express their support for the initiative without any charge being made to their account, unless the minimum amount of money is raised.

At the moment, there are only two backers for the project, with three days left until the expiration of the campaign.

Blackhat movie tells the story of a convicted hacker who is pulled out of prison by law enforcement to help them catch a cybercriminal at large who wreaks havoc from a keyboard.

The trailer looks exciting and the general audience may be fascinated by the power of the keyboard, although many security aficionados will see through the effects and notice that Hollywood has not given up on stereotypes just yet, as many of the talents of the helping black hat do not fit the profile of a real hacker.
