Former dancer and model and, as of late, very popular reality star Camille Grammer has undergone radical surgery after being diagnosed with early stage endometrial cancer, her publicist confirms for Us Weekly.

The rep says that the 45-year-old star from Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills had surgery last Friday, on October 11, and is now feeling fine. She is expected to make a good recovery.

“The surgery [hysterectomy] went very well and she is expected to make a complete recovery following a significant recuperation period,” Grammer’s publicist explains.

In the same statement, Grammer, through the rep, stresses that her example should be followed by other women: regular check-ups can lead to early detection of cancer, and thus increase the chances of beating it.

“[She] was at elevated risk due to genetic issues and has been diligent about regular check-ups and monitoring which explains the early detection and rapid treatment,” the statement says.

“[Camille] expresses gratitude to all the amazing health care professionals who have taken such loving and nurturing care of her... She urges all women to be aware of genetic factors relating to women's cancers and get regular check-ups,” the rep adds.

Camille Grammer isn’t the only celebrity to use her cancer diagnosis and subsequent experience with beating it to raise awareness on the importance of regular check-ups for early detection.

Just recently, E! News correspondent Giuliana Rancic and Oscar-winning Angelina Jolie went public with their breast cancer struggles: both women had double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery and, while they believe the decision was perfect for them, they advise women to pick whichever option is best suited to their case.

Rancic had the surgery 2 years ago, after being diagnosed with cancer while she was getting IVF treatment to get pregnant.

In Jolie’s case, the double mastectomy was preventive, after testing revealed she had a “faulty gene” that considerably increased her chances of developing cancer. She lost her mother to the disease, so she decided to take fate in her own hands to not become a victim as well.
