On Mother’s Day, MyTV reached a new low with Autumn Allen

Autumn Allen, a 13-year-old singer and songwriter, has been living in Cambodia with her father since she was 6 years old. She hasn’t seen her mother since they left the US, and producers on a show called Like It or Not from MyTV thought this would make the perfect source material for a prank.

They invited the teen on the show on Mother’s Day, and given the occasion, they told her they had managed to track her mother down and had flown her over for a reunion. You can see the prank in the video below, if you can stand 16 minutes of footage in a foreign language you might not be familiar with.

ET reports that Autumn’s teary response was that this would be “a dream come true.” Instead, comedian Chuop Rolin pranced on stage in drag, revealing that the so-called reunion had been a prank from the get-go.

Since air-time, MyTV has apologized to Autumn and she writes on Facebook that she’s ok, even though she was a bit shocked that she’d become the target of such a prank.

“A mistake happened and I have forgiven them. Thank you for every one supports. Please find it in your heart to forgive them too. Love, Autumn,” she writes.

She sounds honest, but that doesn’t change the fact that producers of a TV show thought it would be “funny” to prank a teenager estranged from her mother, tricking her into expecting a reunion after years of being apart.
