Activision Blizzard is finally announcing a clear release date for Call of Duty: World at War. The North American market will get the game on November 11 and while no clear European date has been announced yet, we surely hope it will arrive in Europe at the same time. The game is set to launch for the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii, the PC and even the Nintendo DS. A beta for the multiplayer element is set to be launched soon but only those who play the game on the PC and on the Xbox 360 will take part in it.

This game was developed by Treyarch using the same graphics engine that powers Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, a title that enjoyed great success when it was released last year and still makes it into the videogames sales charts. It was developed by Infinity Ward, who are now working on the next game in the franchise.

In a controversial move, Treyarch have opted to set their game in World War II, a setting that multiple war games, both shooters and real time strategies, have visited in the recent years. There will be two playable campaigns, one which follows the advances of the American forces on the islands of the Pacific and a more traditional one, which follows the Red Army in its battles as it heads to Berlin.

Treyrch are saying that the game, while set in a very familiar period, will be fresh and interesting because it approaches war in a very different way than the previous games in the series did. The focus will be on the experiences of the individual soldier and insiders even said that some portions of the game feel more like survival horror than first person shooter.

What's certain is that Call of Duty: World at War must fill some pretty big shoes left by Call of Duty 4 and we'll see how it manages to do that on November 11.
