Online retailer Amazon has released information which shows that Call of Duty: Black Ops, from developer Treyarch and Activision Blizzard, Just Dance 2 from Ubisoft and Donkey Kong Country Returns, from developer Retro and Nintendo, have been the best selling video game titles over the very important Christmas shopping season.

Amazon has measured sales between November 14 and December 19 and is talking about titles that were ordered and not about those actually delivered.

When it comes to hardware, the sale data was dominated by two versions of the Amazon made Kindle readers, which allows users to get access to ebooks and a superior reading experience, and by the iPod Touch, the 3 GB version, with gaming not breaking into the top three.

Amazon has also said that Black Ops has been the best sold video game on its site for the entire 2010, as measured until December 15, and has also topped the Wish List for the year.

Interestingly, while Call of Duty was the best seller and most people got it for themselves, Just Dance 2, which is a more casual minded dancing game, has been the most gifted video games when it comes to Amazon.

Call of Duty: Black Ops has dominated the NPD sales chart for the month of November and will likely do the same for the month of December.

The game has managed to move an impressive number of copies, more than 5.6 million, during its first day on sale, and is the biggest selling title of the year that passed.

The publisher Activision Blizzard is very interested in increasing its life span and the length of time that it can sell Black Ops for full price and plans to release the first downloadable content pack, called First Strike, on the first day of February.

The pack brings four new multiplayer maps and a zombies-based one.
