Developer Infinity Ward and Activison publisher are definitely celebrating today, as Call of Duty 2 just hit the one million units sold mark on Xbox 360. The reports count the units being moved in the US alone, and do not include PC sales. According to Activision, Call of Duty 2 is the first title on Xbox 360 to accomplish such a feat. It took 10 long months, but we can already think about a Platinum Hits collection for Microsoft's console. In fact, the game continues to sell well; a good sign for the upcoming sequel of the series, Call of Duty 3, coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"We are proud that Call of Duty 2 is the first title to sell over one million units on the Xbox 360 in the U.S." said Robin Kaminsky, executive vice president, Activision Publishing. "Activision has made a strong commitment to develop leading franchises for the next-generation consoles and we look forward to continuing that successful strategy with our titles launching on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the Wii this fall."

While players agree there are way too many WWII franchises that flood the gaming scene, Call of Duty 2 appears as the trend leader. We're talking about the best selling Xbox 360 title that was reported with great PC sales as well. According to the Xfire multiplayer match making service, Call of Duty 2 is third on daily player preferences, surpassed only by World of Warcraft, and close behind Counter-Strike Source. Activision's announcement comes only as a clarification for the huge success the franchise is enjoying.
