The development team at Infinity Ward and publisher Activision are announcing that Call of Duty: Ghosts is set to get an official double experience weekend starting today, Friday 26, in order to celebrate that the PlayStation 4, the PC and the PS3 are getting access to the Invasion downloadable content pack.

The company has not yet given any clear details via its Twitter account on exactly when the extra rewards for gamers will begin to be offered on each of the involved platforms.

Traditionally, double experience weekends start at some point in the afternoon on Friday and end at midnight on Sunday, using the Pacific Daylight Time zone.

The Invasion DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts is designed to introduce four new maps to the game, all of them with some unique kill streaks, including a band of Death Mariachi who wield twin pistols and can make a killed enemy one of their own.

Gamers who buy it will also get access to a new episode linked to the Extinction cooperative mode, which will see a squad of soldiers finally discover the overlords who have been guiding the alien invasion of Earth.

The DLC has been offered on the Xbox One and the 360 for about one month and gamers have been mostly positive when it comes to the new content.

At the moment, the team at Infinity Ward is working on a final piece of extra content for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which is set to be launched before the end of the year, and it is also delivering patches to cover all issues that the community sees as important to the shooter experience.

The team at Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision are focusing their attention on the new title in the series, called Advanced Warfare, which is supposed to arrive on November 4 of this year on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and current-gen consoles.

The game will take players to the year 2054 and it is designed to include a wide variety of future technology, like exoskeletons, hover bikes and rifles that are able to print their own ammunition depending on the battlefield situation.

The studio working on the title has pledged to keep the core elements of the series intact, while also aiming to introduce some innovation to both single and multiplayer.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will face competition from Battlefield Hardline from EA and Visceral Games.
