Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the new first person shooter from Activision, has a variety of security measures in-place to prevent and detect cheaters, chief among which being the new Call of Duty Elite online service, as it's going to help the developers at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games track down cheaters.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to once again topple sales records in November, when it will be released by Activision onto all sorts of platforms, with many new features like the integration of the new Call of Duty Elite online service.

With any shooter that relies heavily on its multiplayer mode, however, cheating is a big issue, but Infinity Ward's creative strategist, Robert Bowling, says that special measures were taken to make sure people aren't using external programs to mess with the game's code.

"There's been a lot of work put into it. I can't go into specifics. On a general high level area there's so much more stuff that we've locked down and made less accessible than we had before," he told to GameSpy. "A lot of stuff that we stripped out, a lot more challenge response things that we're doing... It's about verifying what the code is supposed to be and what the code actually is on the client side, and making sure that those are aligned."

What;s more, the integration of the multiplayer mode with Call of Duty Elite makes verifying and inspecting players that much easier, at least according to Bowling, who mentions that separate teams are now being constituted to make sure everything goes smoothly.

"A lot of that stuff can be done through Elite that we can review," the Infinity Ward representative added. "Then we have tools to report player stuff in game that players can use, and we'll have entire teams monitoring and taking actions on those."

"That's new for us. A lot of that stuff, the monitoring stuff, a lot of that was introduced in Black Ops but with Elite that is launching with Modern Warfare 3, we're taking that in an all new area, having full teams dedicated solely to that."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is out on November 8 for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.
