Call of Duty Elite, the recent online service that was announced by Activision, aims at offering a concrete and coherent experience for the members of the "best online community in the world," at least according to Activision.

The Call of Duty franchise is currently the largest gaming series in the world, managing to set new sales records with each of its recent iterations.

Now, Activision wants to further solidify the series by releasing Call of Duty Elite, an online service that aims at being a social network for all Call of Duty gamers, offering a wide range of free and premium features.

According to Chacko Sonny, the head of Elite development studio Beachhead, the service is going to complement the regular Call of Duty multiplayer experience and let gamers meet other people who share their love for the franchise as well as many other interests.

"We have the best online community in the world and we owe it to them to offer an experience that will not only anticipate their needs but will keep getting better and better every single day," he said in a recent interview with OXM.

"That's what we've done with Call of Duty Elite. At last count, all four of the CoD games between 2007-2010 are currently in the top ten on Xbox Live, and they need us to figure out a way to bring those discrete communities together."

The service will offer support for Call of Duty: Black Ops, with the release of the upcoming beta stage, and for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which is going to be released on the same day as Elite, on November 8.

Sonny emphasizes that, while new Call of Duty games will come and go, Elite will remain relevant to gamers.

"We want our players to create a single profile and build a relationship with Elite that can continue to evolve with every CoD game," he added.

Call of Duty Elite already saw 2 million gamers register to participate in the upcoming beta stage, which will start next month and tie into the recent Call of Duty: Black Ops game.
