Call of Duty: Ghosts is already one of the biggest video game launches of the year, but it seems that publisher Activision wants to make sure that players remain engaged with the first-person shooter in the long term via the new Clan Wars feature.

The new mode was fully detailed earlier today and will deliver its first phase starting on November 25 and the development team at Beachhead wants to make sure that the entire experience is both engaging and fair.

John Linden, the leader of the studio, states via the One of Swords blog that, “We have a new matchmaking system, which takes into account the skill and size of your Clan at the beginning of the War. You don’t want to get one group with 100 people where they all play 15 hours a day versus a group of 100 people with four active players playing two hours a day.”

Data from previous Call of Duty multiplayer experiences has shown that players will abandon all modes that are not well balanced when they are first introduced.

The developer adds, “we tried to build a game that allows you to have a fair fight. And obviously, if you don’t play as much, you will ultimately lose — but it’s the kind of thing where you can definitely take over territories and earn bonuses in the game, and fight over these different pieces.”

Beachhead wants to give players the option of doing something else than playing Call of Duty: Ghosts for one day, but a successful Clan will have to stay committed to the overall campaign and make sure that it keeps all the players involved.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is at the moment offered on the PC, the Wii U, the PlayStation 4 and current-gen consoles and will also be out tomorrow on the Xbox One.
