Call of Duty: Black Ops has already been named as the most important video game launched during 2010, managing to bring in more than 1 billion dollars in revenue for publisher Activision Blizzard, and the minds of fans are already turning towards next year's installment and what changes it will bring to the first person shooter formula.

A developer, yet unnamed, inside Activision is already working on a new Call of Duty video game which will be presumably launched during the fall of 2011 and the leader of publisher Activision has hinted that the main changes might not be to the actual gameplay but to the way the game responds to how player engages with it.

Bobby Kotick, who is the chief executive officer of Activision Blizzard, has stated, “Blizzard really created the model for how to do this successfully and effectively, making sure the community of 'World of Warcraft' players has incredible influence on the future of the product.”

He added, “There's so much more that we can deliver to our players.”

Ever since the success of Modern Warfare 2 Kotick has dropped veiled hints that Call of Duty might make a good MMO experience, catering to a segment of the public that would never be interested in playing Blizzard's World of Warcraft.

Each time he has been directly asked about a subscription-based game model for Call of Duty directly, the CEO has said that the series will always deliver its multiplayer for free in a package which also includes a single player campaign.

World of Warcraft currently has more than 12 million subscribers and is the most successful game experience in its niche and Activision Blizzard would certainly love to have another similar title in its product line up.

But before we see a Call of Duty MMO players will probably be more interested in seeing a separation of the single and multiplayer sections of the game, which would allow developers to better tailor each experience for its expected public.
