Friday was an important day because publisher Activision and developer Treyarch unveiled the first official trailer for their next videogame in the Call of Duty franchise. The new offering will be titled Black Ops and the launch date is set to be November 9, 2010, pretty much on the same day when Modern Warfare 2 arrived last year. It seems that the game will be playable on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC, probably through Steam.

Interestingly, Activision appears to be suggesting that Black Ops will be linked with Modern Warfare although the operations depicted in the game will be taking place during the period of the Cold War between superpowers United States and U.S.S.R. The main action may take place in Vietnam, plus the big proxy confrontation between the two nations and their allies but players can expect to do a bit of globetrotting, moving to locations like Cuba, Iran and Arctic area.

Players will probably take on the role of a variety of characters, all of them involved in Black Ops, those missions conducted under perfect secrecy with the nations launching them always having the option of denying any links to those who are engaged. The single player campaign will be complemented by cooperative missions involving two players and by multiplayer modes, which might again include zombies.

Mark Lamia, who is the studio head at Treyarch, stated, “We can't wait for our community to experience Call of Duty: Black Ops. We have focused our entire studio on this game, with dedicated multiplayer, single-player and co-op teams creating the most intense, gripping and riveting experience possible for our fans on all fronts.”

Here's the new trailer. Take a look at it and tell us if you manage to spot some interesting clue as to what the new Call of Duty will be:
