Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 developer Treyarch confirms that the upcoming shooter won't try to implement mechanics or themes from past games in the Call of Duty series, such as Advanced Warfare, as it's focusing on the actual black ops missions that players have to complete as part of the story.

The upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was revealed to the world at the beginning of the week by developer Treyarch and publisher Activision. The new first-person shooter got some details about its new mechanics, such as the enhanced movement system, but also about its revised multiplayer systems that bring nine playable specialist characters.

However, very few details were mentioned about the overall story, besides the fact that it takes place in 2065, after the events of Black Ops 2, and that it will have a central focus on augmented soldiers with all sorts of cybernetic implants that have a serious effect on the battlefield.

The central theme deals with black ops missions

According to Treyarch boss Mark Lamia, Black Ops 3, as its name suggests, focuses on the black ops missions that players will have to complete as part of the story. It won't bring elements from past Call of Duty titles like Advanced Warfare, nor from past historical events.

Fans will also get a special story that unites the missions in the campaign, but as of yet, no details can be shared by Treyarch, as it's a bit early for that.

"It's not Modern Warfare, it's not Advanced Warfare and it's not a World War 2 game," Lamia tells Eurogamer.

"Black Ops is about the Black Ops missions and what we do. It's just not about a timeframe. In prior games we've moved around in timeframes and you don't know what we've got up our sleeves. We're not bound to any other fiction inside of Call of Duty, and frankly we can take it where we want to. There's a specific story, which we're not getting into the entirety of, which is a thread that runs through it," he adds.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches on November 6 worldwide. Fans will be able to hear and learn more about the game in June at E3 2015.
