Video game developer Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision are announcing that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is going free-to-play on the Steam digital distribution service from Valve for the weekend, and gamers can also pick up the first-person shooter with a price cut of 25 percent, which is quite significant given that it was launched on November 4.

Gamers need to simply check their libraries in order to get to the game’s entry, then download it and play it for the period.

The free period will end at 1 PM Pacific Time on Monday, December 15, and gamers can take advantage of the reduced price for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare until 10 AM on the same day.

All the features of the game will be accessible, which means that fans can choose to jump into the single player and complete the campaign, which tends to last 10 hours at the most, or they can get a taste of the multiplayer, although the two-day period is not enough to explore all of its intricacies.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is at the moment also offering double experience for multiplayer fans who are using the Mosh Pit playlist, allowing their character to evolve faster.

Sledgehammer Games has already delivered some solid patches for the shooter and the leader of the development team suggests that more changes are set to be introduced soon, including tweaks to the balance.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will have four downloadable content packs

The new shooter from Activision has also taken the top selling position in the NPD Group-compiled United States video game chart for the month of November.

Activision also says that this is the biggest entertainment launch of the year.

The developers at Sledgehammer Games are at the moment working on the first piece of downloadable content for the shooter, called Havoc, which is expected to be offered at some point in early 2015 and will be first available on the Xbox One.

Gamers will be able to experience new multiplayer maps, more weapons and they will be allowed to engage in the Exo Zombies mode, which has been widely requested since the November 4 launch.

Another three DLCs for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be offered all through next year in order to make the title interesting and prevent shooter fans from abandoning it for newer entries in the genre, like Battlefield Hardline.
