The team went to introduce innovation to the franchise

The new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare might be part of the arguably biggest franchise in the world of video games, but it is the first project for Sledgehammer Games and the team says that it is, in many ways, treating it as it would an entirely new intellectual property.

Glen Schofield, the leader of the company, tells GamesInformer that, “We approached this like we would any new IP. I mean, this has been one heck of a creative challenge. I mean, everything is brand new in the game, some pretty big experiments to the core mechanics that’ll effect multiplayer and every mode of the game.”

Sledgehammer Games has previously collaborated with other Call of Duty teams, but this is the first time that they are creating a new installment from scratch.

The studio has promised that it will introduce some new and interesting mechanics to the first-person shooter, but that all long-term fans will get a title that’s entirely recognizable and keeps up the standards created by other teams.

Studio Co-Founder Michael Condrey adds, “Yeah, we’re really looking forward to sharing more because we think we have some meaningful way to make this franchise feel like it’s got its Sledgehammer mark on it.”

Advanced Warfare was revealed via a pretty impressive trailer that showed Kevin Spacey playing the main antagonist and delivering a speech that would make House of Cards character Frank Underwood proud, while a highlight reel of the core mechanics was also shown.

The story will involve a powerful Private Military Company, which uses highly advanced technology, attacking all the national armies in the world by surprise at the same time.

There is no connection to either Black Ops or Modern Warfare at the moment, but Easter Eggs are a possibility.

Sledgehammer Games has said that more details about the new mechanics will be shown during the coming E3 2014 event.

Activision has also predicted that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be one of the best video games of the year.

At the same time, the publisher has admitted that the launch of the next-gen consoles and their relatively limited install bases might mean that overall sales for the new title are lower than those for Black Ops 2 or even Ghosts.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will launch all over the world on November 4 for the PC, the PlayStation 4, the PS3, the Xbox One and the 360.
