Gamers need to carefully plan their upgrade paths

The development team at Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision revealed the existence of a new Exo Survival cooperative mode for their new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare via a rather short trailer, but they are now ready to deliver more details about the core experience and how it will exploit the future setting of the title.

IGN was chosen by the two companies to play the mode, which will support up to four players, with two of them able to experience local split screen, and asks them to battle waves of Private Military Company operatives, ranging from on-foot soldiers to dogs, mechs and powerful drones.

All the maps that Sledgehammer Games has created for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer will be used and gamers can unlock more of them as they spend more time in Exo Survival.

Traditional wave-based modes include bosses, but in the new shooter, gamers will get missions instead, which are objective-based and can give a team of players either an advantage for the rest of the session or a penalty.

A choice of classes and upgrades

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will include three classes for Exo Survival, each designed to suit different play styles, and gamers can also upgrade both their exo-skeleton and their weapons between combat rounds, using points they have gained by performing well.

Sledgehammer Games says that the difficulty of the mode increases after the first 20 waves and that the best testers working on the shooter have not managed to get past 65.

Gamers cannot pick up where they left off but the character evolution is persistent and that means players will be able to sense their growing power as they take out more enemy waves.

A complement to competitive modes

Traditionally, the success of a Call of Duty title is linked to the quality of its competitive multiplayer mode, but it’s clear that both Activision and Sledgehammer Games are aiming to make Exo Survival in Advanced Warfare equally popular.

The mode supports both matchmaking and private matches, and the two companies are planning to deliver more information closer to launch date.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be out on November 4 of this year on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, the PC, and last-gen consoles.

Activision is offering a Day Zero version for the shooter, which can already be pre-ordered and allows players to access the game 24 hours earlier.
