Don't expect to experience Modern Warfare once again

A high-definition remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare isn't in development at Sledgehammer Games, as the studio is still busy making DLC for its recent Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, while prototyping ideas for the next installment in the shooter franchise.

The Call of Duty series has been around for a very long time but it really entered the mainstream when franchise founder Infinity Ward brought forth Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which took the saga from World War 2 into the present and included all sorts of impressive mechanics and even a great story.

Since then, the series has grown exponentially and other studios are now also making games in the franchise, such as Treyarch and Sledgehammer, which alternate with Infinity Ward.

Sledgehammer isn't working on an HD remake of Call of Duty 4

After rolling out the very successful Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Sledgehammer talks a bit about its future plans in a new interview with HipHopGamer, via DualShockers.

Right off the bat, Sledgehammer co-founder Michael Condrey is asked about the possibility of his team remaking Call of Duty 4 and he shoots it down. While he expresses love for recent HD remakes and for long running franchises like God of War or Ratchet & Clank, his team isn't trying to bring back Modern Warfare.

"There are tons of games that I’ve played in my career that I would love to play again, remastered," he says. "From God of War to Ratchet & Clank, so I get the appeal and I, you know, my heart is closest to Call of Duty and I love going back and playing Call of Duty 4 and Modern [Warfare] 2, and so I can tell you we’re not working on any remastered edition at Sledgehammer. I think there’s opportunity for Call of Duty, but that said I don’t know if anybody is working on it, we’re not working on it."

While Condrey is decisive about the plans of his studio, he leaves the door open for one of Activision's smaller internal teams, who could easily handle the porting process of Modern Warfare onto the PS4 or Xbox One in the future. As of yet, however, the large publisher hasn't talked about its future plans.
