The team says that it was taken directly from the engine

The development team at Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision might not be ready to offer any kind of details on the new Call of Duty title that they are currently working on, but during the Game Developers Conference, the two companies gave a limited audience a preview of how the character models for the new title looked.

The image was captured by IGN and was offered in the Quest for Quality: Maximizing the Relationship Between Creative and Production panel, where a number of developers talked about technical aspects of the game engine.

The image, which a developer said was taken directly from the new Call of Duty, is not great when it comes to quality, but it does suggest that there will be a lot more details included by Sledgehammer Games.

The team explained that the increase in graphics quality for the game was a direct result of the fact that it was being developed taking into account the power that could be delivered by the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

The title has been in development for three years, although Sledgehammer Games has actually had access to new hardware for about two years, and the company has promised that it will deliver a level of quality not previously seen in the first-person shooter series.

When the new title was revealed, the leader of the studio promised that the game would use classic concepts for the franchise, while also trying to introduce some new features that would surprise long-term fans.

The fact that Sledgehammer Games is working on Call of Duty is a sign that the intellectual property, one of the most important for Activision, is moving to a three-year cycle that's designed to increase the quality of the delivered games.

No details on the story of the new experience have yet been offered, but rumors are saying that the new studio has the freedom to create its own game universe from scratch, without having to make a connection with either Black Ops or Modern Warfare.

The new Call of Duty will be launched at some point in the fall, probably in early November, and will also be offered on the PC and on older consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

More details and a full gameplay reveal will probably take place just before or during the coming E3 2014 event.
