Burnout Paradise is a game transformed. The developers at Criterion have really shown a very strong loyalty to their player base and have released two very important patches since the game was launched. They are now announcing that the third patch, codenamed "Cagney," will be out in less than a month for all players of Burnout Paradise.

The Cagney patch comes with a variety of new content for all those playing the games. As a player, you get the usual bug fixes and gameplay balancing tweaks, like a better framerate on the PlayStation 3 and better support for some HD television sets. But there's much more in this update than just that.

There are 3 new Freeburn modes that you can try out with friends. Road Rage is a mode for 8 players, played by two teams of 4. As one of the teams races through checkpoints, the other team must do everything in their power to stop the other one from reaching the last checkpoint and winning the race. Coordination and team play will be much more important than pure driving skills.

There will also be a Stunt Run mode that involves tricks performed by using barriers, billboards and ramps in the city, and a Marked Man mode that involves all the players ganging up on one of them that is "marked," in an effort to stop him from reaching the finish line. The patch also adds more than 70 other Freeburn challenges across the in-game city.

The update also introduces two new cars, one of which is a Hunter Olympus. The other car is a secret one added by Criterion, and it will take some work to unlock it.

The update bonanza at Criterion continues well into the year. The "Davis" update, the one that will introduce motorbikes in the game, will arrive sometime in August, while the "Eastwood" update is planned for early fall and is set to introduce new islands to the game.
