The team at the Paradox Development Studios is delivering a new diary for its upcoming Rajas of India expansion for Crusader Kings II, which offers more information on the way the three new religions, Hindu, Buddhist and Jain, will change the core game mechanics.

The team explains on the official forums that, “all three Indian religions is that they are pluralistic and tolerant, especially toward each other. Thus, none of them have any heresies to worry about. Instead, low religion authority will cause various negative events to fire, much in the same way that having negative money does.”

Rajas of India introduces no heresies, but adds both accepted religious branches and favored gods for each character.

The Indian religions also give players the option to pick a favorite child as heir and gamers will be able to switch once per lifetime to take advantage of their unique bonuses.

In Rajas of India, gamers who choose to be Hindu will have access to war-related options, including the ability to launch Holy Wars and to raid non-Indian provinces adjacent to their own.

The downside is that they need to deal with a rigid caste system made up of Brahmin, Kshatriya or Vaishya, which tends to restrict their marriage choices and their ability to select solid administrators for their provinces.

Paradox adds that Buddhists will be more philosophically focused and they “cannot raid and their Holy War CB is less powerful (currently, counties instead of duchies), but they do get a great bonus to Learning, meaning that they will have unmatched long-term technological progress - if they can survive...”

The Jain are more peaceful than both of the above and do not have access to a Holy War Casus Belli, but they do get bonuses when it comes to vassal relations and to the order in their provinces.

Rajas of India for Crusader Kings II will be launched before the end of the spring.
