More than a mere copy

For those who can't have the real thing, a copy sometimes proves to be just as good. Chinese Telecommunication and Microsoft joined forces with Dopod in order to design the CHT 9110 PDA handset.

The phone highly resembles HTC Touch's design features and even some of its performances. It's still not the same thing and that can be easily seen once the owner starts using it. The CHT 9110 reveals the source of its features starting with the name and finishing with its look. Still, when it comes to design, this device rather resembles older HTC phone models, with its rectangle look and corners less rounded than those of the Touch phone.

CHT 9110 will work on Windows Mobile 6, one of the most evolved mobile operating systems. Still, no word on the TouchFLO interface, although that is the main feature which sets this device apart from others. The phone will support Chinese Telecommunication's 3G the mPro service, one highly useful feature. The 3.5G (HSDPA) performances will make it possible to transfer data at high speeds.

The 2.8 inch touchscreen will prove to be quite large, although its size will prove to be going to waste as long as it lacks the interface which has made the original smartphone version such a success. The PDA phone will also come equipped with a Media Player and the possibility to download applications.

Further specifications show the fact that this is one truly evolved device. It comes with built-in GPS capabilities, as well as integrated WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. The phone has 64 MB of RAM and 256 MB of ROM. In case that proves to be insufficient, there is also a miniSD expansion slot.

It looks like the Chinese have gone to great trouble in order to make the CHT 9110 smartphone come as close as possible to the performances of the HTC Touch. At some extent, they have even succeeded in doing this, although the word "copy" really cuts down on this device's quality.
