14 DAY TRIAL // Acer is one of the biggest Chromebook vendors in the world. It has been the first to provide a touch-based Chrome OS laptop and to implement the NVIDIA Tegra K1 platform.
Today, at CES 2015 Acer rolls out another world premiere. The device maker has just rolled out the Chromebook 15 model, which is the largest of its kind.
The model arrives with a spacious 15.6-inch display, which constitutes a pretty big jump, considering Acer’s largest model so far was of the 13-inch variety.
Chromebooks with Broadwell are a reality now
Apart from the display bump, the newest flagship Chromebook from Acer is also the first of its class to arrive with a Broadwell CPU.
The Taiwanese company is offering two options in terms of screen resolution including the standard 1366 x 788 resolution and the more advanced 1920 x 1080 (FHD).
Chromebook 15 will run on an Intel Core i3 or Celeron platform from the Broadwell category (5th generation). Given that the processor should be light on the power consumption, the notebook should be able to handle a battery life of up 8 hours on a single charge.
The notebook also bundles 2GB / 4GB of RAM plus 16GB / 32GB of internal storage.
Acer will offer the model in white with a fabric-like surface. The device also takes advantage of two full-sized upward facing speakers, so your media needs should be covered.
The notebook isn't the lightest you have seen around, breaking the scale at 4.85 lbs / 2.1 kg, although it’s no brick either.
If portability is not really your concern and you don’t plan to carry it around with you all day, then maybe you’d be interested to know that Acer plans to market the device for around $250 / €209.
That’s a lot more affordable than we were initially expecting, which is good news for anyone looking for a laptop equipped with Intel’s latest chip architecture.
